Planned Gifts
The Chi Phi Educational Trust is privileged to recognize members of the MacLean Legacy Society, who have projected their love and support for Chi Phi and its mission beyond the horizon of their own mortality by making a planned gift. Get more information on the MacLean Legacy Society.
Bequests
A bequest provides for the transfer by will of a specific asset – generally a named sum, a percentage of the value of the estate, a piece of real estate, or tangible property. The way this gift is made can be tailored to meet the specific needs of family and friends.
Retirement Plan
Naming the Educational Trust as the beneficiary of your retirement plan is an easy way to create a lasting impact on future generations of Chi Phi men. Gifting your plan to Chi Phi would eliminate the income tax, generation-skipping tax, and the estate tax on the funds in the plan. To gift an IRA or 401K you will need to fill out a Beneficiary Designation/Change Form naming Chi Phi Educational Trust as your beneficiary and file it with your plan administrator.
Life Insurance
Life Insurance policies are an ideal way to remember the Educational Trust in an estate. To gift an existing policy a donor simply needs to complete a change of ownership form, naming the Chi Phi Educational Trust as the new policy owner. To gift a new policy, a donor needs to purchase a policy naming the Chi Phi Educational Trust as the owner of the policy.
Charitable Gift Annuities
A charitable gift annuity is a simple contract between the Chi Phi Educational Trust and a supporter. In exchange for a gift of cash, appreciated securities, real estate or other assets, Chi Phi guarantees payments for life to the income beneficiary named in the contract. Payout rates are highly competitive and reflect the maximum recommended by the American Council on Gift Annuities.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
For those individuals who desire a separately-invested trust to provide for loved ones, as well as for Chi Phi, there are a number of options provided by charitable remainder trusts. The trust holds assets for a term of years (up to 20) or for the lifetime of those individuals who are designated as income beneficiaries. At the conclusion of the trust, the assets are given to the designated charities to be used as the donor directed.
